What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is the use of medication to help patients relax during dental procedures. It is also sometimes called sleep dentistry. Sedation dentistry can be used for a variety of dental procedures, including:

– Dental implants

– Wisdom teeth removal

– Root canals

– Cavity fillings

– Crowns and bridges

There are a few different types of sedation that can be used, depending on the procedure being performed and the patient’s level of dental anxiety. The most common type of sedation is oral conscious sedation, which is taken in pill form before the procedure. This type of sedation will make you feel drowsy but you will still be awake and able to respond to questions.

Another type of sedation is IV sedation, which is administered through a small needle in your arm. This type of sedation will make you feel more relaxed and you may not remember the procedure when it’s over.

If you have dental anxiety or are undergoing a invasive dental procedure, sedation dentistry can help you relax and get the treatment you need. Talk to your dentist about whether sedation dentistry is right for you.

Why Is Flossing Important?

Why Is Flossing Important?

Why is flossing important?

“Are you flossing on a regular basis?” is undoubtedly a question you hear at the dentist’s office every time. That’s because it’s essential! Many people despise the sensation of moving a strand of floss between their teeth, and as a result, don’t include it in their daily tooth cleaning regimen. But Dr. Koumas says simply cleaning your teeth on a regular basis isn’t enough to eliminate plaque and prevent cavities. Here’s why flossing is important for maintaining a healthy smile, both for protecting your teeth and gums from disease and preventing you from acquiring other ailments.

Removes Plaque

The first reason to floss is that it removes plaque from your teeth. Plaque is a sticky film of bacteria that constantly forms on your teeth. When you eat or drink, the sugars and starches in these items interact with the bacteria in plaque to form acids. These acids then attack tooth enamel, which can lead to cavities. Flossing helps remove plaque before it has a chance to form acids and damage your teeth.

Helps Prevent Gum Disease

Another reason to floss is that it can help prevent gum disease. Gum disease is an infection of the gums that can eventually lead to bone loss and tooth loss if left untreated. Plaque is again the culprit here, as it irritates the gums and causes them to become inflamed. This inflammation is what we know as gingivitis, and if it progresses, it can turn into periodontitis. Flossing helps remove plaque from the gum line and can therefore help prevent both gingivitis and periodontitis.

Brushing and Flossing Tips!

Here are some tips to help you floss correctly:- Use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste on your toothbrush. You don’t need a lot of toothpaste to get your teeth clean – just a pea-sized amount will do.- Hold the floss tightly between your thumb and index finger. This will help you control the floss better as you move it around your teeth.- Gently slide the floss up and down between your teeth. Be careful not to snap the floss into your gums, as this can cause irritation.- Use a clean section of floss for each tooth. This will help ensure that you’re removing all the plaque and bacteria from your teeth.- Rinse your mouth with water after you’re done flossing. This will help remove any leftover plaque or toothpaste from your mouth. If you have any questions about how to properly floss your teeth, please call our office at (855) 346-1108000 and we would be happy to help you!

How Often Should I Replace My Toothbrush?

How Often Should I Replace My Toothbrush?

How often should I replace my toothbrush?

How often should I replace my toothbrush? That’s a question I’m always asked. A worn-out toothbrush won’t do a good job of cleaning your teeth and can actually damage your gums. It’s important to replace your toothbrush every three to four months, or sooner if the bristles become frayed. When shopping for a new toothbrush, consider one with softer bristles. Medium or hard bristles can be too harsh on your gums. You might also want to look for a toothbrush with an ergonomic handle that will fit comfortably in your hand and be sure to choose a toothbrush head that’s the right size for your mouth.

Consider investing in an electric toothbrush.

Electric toothbrushes are more expensive than manual toothbrushes, but they do a better job of cleaning your teeth. And many electric toothbrushes come with timers that help you brush for the recommended two minutes.

An electric toothbrush is a good choice if you have arthritis or another condition that makes it difficult to brush your teeth effectively. And children and teenagers who have a hard time brushing their teeth may also benefit from an electric toothbrush.

If you decide to buy an electric toothbrush, be sure to read the instructions carefully before using it. And make sure to charge it regularly so that it will be ready to use when you need it.

Try a Water Pick Too!

Water flossing is an effective way to clean your teeth and gums. Water flossers are easy to use, and they can help remove plaque and bacteria from your teeth and gums.

Water flossers are a good choice for people who have braces or other dental devices that make it difficult to floss their teeth effectively. And they can be used in addition to regular brushing and flossing, or as an alternative to flossing.

If you decide to use a water flosser, be sure to read the instructions carefully before using it. And make sure to refill the reservoir regularly so that you have enough water to finish Flossing your teeth.

All Of Your Teeth Staining Questions Answered

All Of Your Teeth Staining Questions Answered

All Of Your Teeth Staining Questions Answered

June 11, 2019

You’ve likely seen the commercials for at-home teeth whitening or have seen a new tooth whitening product while scrolling through Facebook or Instagram. You may have even heard of teeth whitening services at your dentist office. No doubt, you’ve looked at your teeth and noticed they may not be as white as you would like them to be. You likely have an idea how to “fix” it, but do you know what causes teeth staining and how to prevent it? Our professional dental team is here to answer these, and more, of your questions about teeth staining.

Teeth Staining Frequently Asked Questions

What causes teeth staining?

Tooth discoloration happens when enamel, the hard outer layer of the tooth, is stained by products like coffee, tea, tobacco and red wine. In addition to producing a yellowed look, these products can also cause teeth to appear dark in color or black. Treatments such as laser dentistry and dental veneers can be used to restore the appearance of your teeth, so you no longer have to be embarrassed by your discolored smile. For more information on tooth discoloration, contact us at (845) 562-1108 to schedule an appointment today.

How can I prevent teeth staining?

To prevent staining your teeth, there are some easy steps you can take to protect your pearly whites. For example, you should regularly brush and floss your teeth. If you have time, you can also rinse your mouth with a mouthwash after eating or drinking. You should also avoid things like smoking and coffee, as they can stain your teeth. If you are interested in learning more about how to get whiter teeth, you should visit your our office and ask Dr. Koumas for his advice. He can go over the different options with you, and suggest the best course of action for your situation.

What foods stain your teeth?

Foods that are bright or bold in color are the most likely to stain your teeth. Red pasta sauces, berries such as blueberries and raspberries, and bright curries all can contribute to teeth staining.

What drinks cause teeth staining?

Foods that can stain your teeth can be divided into two main categories: acidic foods, and foods with pigments or dyes. The most common acidic stain-causing foods include soda, red wine, berries, and citrus fruits. Foods that are high in pigments or dyes include beets, carrots, dark soy sauce, dark berries, and black tea.

What other factors contribute to discoloration?

The main two factors that contribute to discoloration are age and how often you consume the foods that can stain your teeth. Teeth naturally become darker over time as the enamel wears down. The more you consume foods and beverages with pigments or dyes, the faster the discoloration will occur. It is also important to note that excessive consumption of acidic foods and beverages can leadto more rapid discoloration of teeth over time.

What can I do to prevent my teeth from getting stained?

The best way to prevent your teeth from getting stained is to limit the amount of time that you consume the foods and beverages that cause staining. Keeping your teeth and gums healthy by maintaining a balanced diet, brushing and flossing daily, and visiting your dentist regularly for checkups will also prevent your teeth from discoloration.

Does green tea stain your teeth?

According to Colgate.com, teas of all colors erode enamel and have been shown to stain teeth- even white and green teas.

Do braces stain your teeth?

Sometimes mild stains are visible once braces are removed, but it’s not the braces, it’s the way the teeth were taken care of while the braces were on.  Follow the other suggestions for preventing stains and avoid using whitening products while wearing braces so you don’t over whiten the area of your teeth surrounding the brackets.

Does charcoal help with teeth staining?

Charcoal is often used as a natural product for a wide range of purposes. Some people use it for their pets or for beauty products, for example. However, some people claim that charcoal can also be an effective teeth whitener. Here is the information you should consider before trying this method.

What is Charcoal?

Charcoal is a natural product that is produced by burning the wood. The main feature of this material is that it can absorb large amounts of water or any other liquids. This feature has made it quite popular for many people, especially for those whose teeth are stained by consuming too much coffee or tea.

Are all types of tooth stains reversible?

There are three primary ways teeth are stained: surface stains; under the surface stains; and age-related stains. All three can benefit from teeth whitening processes.

Ok, so now you may be telling yourself, I know the culprit of my stained teeth and I think I’m ready to brighten my smile. What do I need to know about teeth whitening?

How do I know if I need teeth whitening?

If you feel your teeth could be whiter, talk to your dentist about whether or not they recommend the treatment. The condition of your teeth, as well as the cause of the stains, will help your dentist determine your best options.

Do whitening products really help with teeth staining?

There are a variety of teeth whitening products available that offer different results, pros and cons, and pricing. Learn more about the teeth whitening options here to find which one(s) to talk to about with your dentist.

When is the best time to do teeth whitening?

If you want to look good and feel great, you might consider getting your teeth whitened. It’s a great way to update your look and brighten your smile. However, it might not be the best time to whiten your teeth if you’re planning on getting it done on a vacation. You might want to do it before a vacation or just after a vacation so you can enjoy them with a beautiful smile.

Is teeth whitening permanent?

When you want to whiten your teeth, you’ll be able to see results instantly. However, you may find that the results of your teeth whitening procedure won’t be permanent. This is because your teeth will likely return to their original color after a few days or weeks. So, you may need to touch up your teeth whitening procedure in the future.

Are there any side effects to teeth whitening?

Some patients may experience sensitivity with their teeth after a treatment to reverse teeth staining. Over or misuse of whitening products can damage enamel and cause permanent discoloration.

How much does teeth whitening cost?

It depends; over-the-counter teeth whitening can be less than $50, while professional teeth whitening done at the dentist’s office can cost a couple hundred dollars or more.

You had questions, we had answers. Now that you’re armed with information, you will be better able to prevent and address teeth staining.

Are Teeth Considered Bones?

Are Teeth Considered Bones?

Are Teeth Considered Bones?

Are teeth bones? To most people, teeth and bones look very similar and, believe it or not, they share some commonalities, including being the hardest substances in your entire body. But teeth aren’t actually bone!

are teeth considered bones?

This misconception might arise from the fact that both contain calcium, a necessity for bone growth. More than 99 percent of your body’s calcium can be found in your bones and teeth. Approximately 1 percent is found in your blood.

Despite this, the makeup of teeth and bones are quite different. Their differences inform how they heal and how they should be cared for.

What are bones made of?

Bones are living tissue. They’re made up of the protein collagen and the mineral calcium phosphate. This enables bones to be strong but flexible.

Collagen is like a scaffolding that provides the bone’s framework. The calcium fills in the rest. The inside of the bone has a honeycomb-like structure. It’s called trabecular bone. Trabecular bone is covered by cortical bone.

Because bones are living tissue, they’re constantly being remodeled and regenerated throughout your life. The material never stays the same. Old tissue is broken down, and new tissue is created. When bone breaks, bone cells rush to the broken area to begin regeneration of tissue. Bones also contain marrow, which produces blood cells. Teeth do not have marrow.

What are teeth made of?

Teeth are not living tissue. They’re comprised of four different types of tissue:

Dentin

Dentin is a hard structure that makes up the bulk of your teeth. It is a calcified tissue that lies below your enamel. It’s very similar to bone, except that it contains living cells, which allow your teeth to repair themselves and survive mastication forces.

Enamel

Enamel is the hardest substance in the body. It has no nerves. Though some remineralization of enamel is possible, it can’t regenerate or repair itself if there’s significant damage. This is why it’s important to treat tooth decay and cavities sooner rather than later.

Cementum

The cementum covers the root, under the gum line, and helps the tooth stay in place. Teeth also contain other minerals, but do not have any collagen. Because teeth are not living tissue, it’s important to maintain good oral hygiene, since early damage to teeth cannot be naturally repaired.

Pulp

The pulp is the innermost part of a tooth. It contains blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue. The pulp is surrounded by dentin, which is covered by the enamel.

The bottom line

While teeth and bones might appear to be the same material at first glance, they’re actually quite different. Bones can repair and heal themselves, while teeth cannot. Teeth are more fragile in that respect, which is why it’s so important to practice good dental hygiene and see a dentist regularly.

Newburgh is a city in Orange County, New York, United States. It is located on the Hudson River, approximately north of Midtown Manhattan. It was originally incorporated in the late 18th century as a village, and later became a city in 1854. It sits on the eastern bank of the Hudson River, around north of New York City, and serves as a suburb of the city. The city of Newburgh is bordered by the city of Beacon to the south; by the town of New Windsor to the west; and by Orange County to the north, east, and south. The city of Newburgh is within the New York metropolitan area and has a population of 12,208.

The first European settlement in the region was by the Dutch, who in 1614 built Fort Nassau, a trading post on the Hudson River. The present city of Newburgh was founded by British colonists in 1685, when the city of Newburgh was established by an act of the colonial assembly. The boundaries were disputed between New York and Connecticut from 1778 until 1803, when they were ultimately confirmed by the U.S. Supreme Court, and the city became part of New York State. In 1789 it became the seat of Orange County. Its central location and river access to transportation routes brought industrialization during the 19th and 20th centuries.

In addition, the city derived importance from its proximity to the famous Hudson River, which flows northward through the center of town and separates Newburgh from the neighboring city of Beacon. The river lends its name, as does Beacon Hill, to the Newburgh Beacon Bridge, which connects Newburgh with Beacon, and indirectly to the Hudson Valley region of New York State.

The first known European presence in the area was a Dutch trading post built in 1614. The Dutch established three towns in the colony of New Netherland: Nieuw Amsterdam (present-day New York City); Nieuw Haarlem (now known as Harlem); and Nieuw Utrecht (now known as Brooklyn).
